Founders & Community
Nana’s Nest was born from a simple but powerful belief that every woman and child deserves a safe place to heal, rebuild and belong. Inspired by the success of the Lily House model and Nyumbani in Kenya, we set out to create homes that offer not just shelter, but warmth, mentorship and community.
Simone & Liz
Nana’s Nest was born from friendship, family, and a shared dream to give back. Thirty years ago, Simone and Liz met while working together at the Wesley Hospital, and over time their professional paths in business and friendship grew into a lifelong bond. With more than three decades of experience, both women have used their skills in governance, business management, project development and grant writing to turn a heartfelt idea into reality.
At its core, Nana’s Nest is about community. It’s about creating a place where care, compassion, and connection come together. Simone, now based on the Sunshine Coast, and Liz, in Brisbane, bring not only their professional expertise but also their personal values as mothers, friends and active community members. Their vision is simple yet powerful: to use what they know best to build something that supports women, uplifts families, and leaves a legacy of kindness.
Volunteer Community
At Nana’s Nest, women are supported by a network of experienced volunteers who bring compassion, wisdom and stability to those finding their feet again. Together, they create a nurturing environment where women can rebuild their confidence, nurture their children and rediscover a sense of purpose and hope.
What began as a vision to offer refuge has grown into a movement of empowerment, healing and community connection. Through collaboration, faith, and shared humanity, Nana’s Nest is helping women and their children build brighter futures.
