Brittany’s story is one of resilience, courage and the power of community.
After experiencing unimaginable loss and hardship at a young age, Brittany’s path could have gone many ways but with the right support, she found her way to stability, purpose and a brighter future for herself and her daughter.
From survival to strength: a journey of hope and healing
Brittany’s early years were filled with instability. After losing her mother to cancer at just nine years old, she was left without a safe place to grieve or belong, and ultimately her teenage years were marked by pain and survival.
By twelve, she had already been exposed to alcohol and drugs, setting her on a path filled with risk. By her mid-teens, she was navigating challenges far beyond her years, including early pregnancy and involvement with the justice system.
After leaving rehab, Brittany reached out to Lily House, where she was welcomed with compassion and structure. There, she was given what she describes as “nurturing I’d been missing.”
Through stable housing, support programs, and mentoring, Brittany began to heal and grow. She learned how to care for herself and her daughter, building the confidence and skills to start again.
Today, Brittany is thriving. She is a devoted mum to her daughter Allirah, has maintained her sobriety, works full-time, and dreams of owning her own home one day. Her story is a testament to the power of safe, supported accommodation and to the transformation that’s possible when women are met with kindness instead of judgment.
Brittany now shares her experience as an advocate for Nana’s Nest, helping raise awareness and funds to create similar opportunities for other women and children escaping violence or homelessness. She is also a member of the Support Services Advisory Group, ensuring lived experience continues to shape how support is provided.
Her Legacy
Brittany’s journey reminds us why Nana’s Nest exists: to provide safety, stability, and a community where women and children can heal and rebuild their lives.
Her courage and advocacy continue to inspire us and guide our vision for every woman to have a place to call home.
