The Nana’s Nest Model
A Home That Heals and Empowers
Nana’s Nest is built on a simple yet powerful idea that women heal best in a supported environment. Inspired by the proven success of Lily House on the Sunshine Coast and Nyumbani in Kenya, our model provides a safe, supported home for young women (pregnant or with infants) escaping family and domestic violence, while also welcoming women over 55 who bring wisdom, stability, and mentorship.
Together, they form a nurturing, intergenerational community where connection, purpose and growth flourish.
Our Approach
Each Nana’s Nest home is a place of safety, belonging and empowerment.
Older women share their lived experience and practical skills, offering informal mentoring to younger residents while rediscovering their own sense of purpose and community.
Volunteers play a vital role, supporting skill development, social connection, and everyday needs. Their empathy and experience help create the environment where confidence can grow.

Our Growth Plan
-
Phase One:
The acquisition of a three-bedroom home, community hall and land package to provide a home and wraparound support services for three women.
Renovation of the property and policy development for Accreditation of the residential service.
Design and development for construction of Family Nests (Phase 2).
-
Phase Two:
The development includes two independent apartment blocks, known as “Family Nests.” Each Family Nest contains two 1-bedroom and three 2-bedroom self-contained apartments, providing a total of 10 apartments. Every apartment features its own lounge room, bathroom, and kitchenette, creating a safe and private home environment.
Accommodation is available for up to eight women typically two older women and four to six younger women, some with infants.
Shared community spaces on the property support connection through shared meals, social activities and group workshops, fostering a genuine sense of family and belonging.
Our Partners and Pathways
We work alongside local care organisations, ensuring women are referred and assessed with care and respect.
Our work is guided by two key advisory groups:
First Nations & Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee
Recovery & Support Services Advisory Committee
These groups ensure our services remain inclusive, culturally responsive and grounded in community needs.
